SUMMARY:International Migration - World in Crises
DESCRIPTION:On 30 September\, Warwick District UN Association will host Jonas Kaufmann from Essex University who will address the meeting on the current issues relating to \nInternational Migration – World in Crises\nMigration has become such a toxic issue within the UK and Europe with each nation vying to protect their borders from a large influx of migrants by either introducing draconian measures or by legislation e.g. The UK`s Illegal Migration Bill has become law and this legislation is central to the UK government`s pledge to stop small boats crossing the English Channel. The number of boats carrying migrants from North Africa across the Mediterranean is growing fast – but Europe is struggling to come to terms with this mass movement of people. Tunisia in North Africa is now the launch pad for the majority of migrants who take the risk-laden journey across the Mediterranean Sea. \nThe patterns of the flow of people between countries are widely influenced by international economic\, political and cultural interrelations. International economic disparities\, poverty and environmental degradation\, combined with the absence of peace and security and human rights violations are all factors affecting international migration. \nThe meeting will take place on Saturday 30 September 2023 from 12:15 pm to 2 pm (meeting starts at 12:30 prompt) at Leamington Spa Baptist Church (Warwick Hall)\, Chandos Street\, CV32 4RN. \nThis is a Hybrid meeting both on-line and in-person. Please feel free to bring your own lunches. Tea/coffee/biscuits will be provided. \nJoin Zoom Meeting\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/81206953951?pwd=aWVZYnhKTVdLK3VYcnF2SkRYdUhtQT09 \nMeeting ID: 812 0695 3951\nPasscode: 204554 \nGuest Speaker: Jonas Kaufmann\, Research Academic\, University of Essex and University of Oxford \nJonas is currently pursuing his PhD at the Institute for Social and Economic Research at the University of Essex and working as a Researcher at the Department of International Development at the University of Oxford. He previously worked in research positions at the EU Asylum Agency\, the Refugee Studies Centre in Oxford\, as well as at a public policy consultancy.
