Pathways to Peace is a new series of events from Justice for Palestinians (Leamington Spa). In the inaugural session on 5 June 2024 you will hear from two eminent speakers from the worlds of medicine and the law moderated by renowned human rights barrister Michael Mansfile KC. All three are united by a passion for dignity and justice for the Palestininan people:
We have attracted the cream of speakers on Gaza, Palestine, the Middle East and Israel. They are all experts in their fields, from history, to politics, to diplomacy, aid , medicine, the law, and beyond. They will share their analyses of the issues and their vision for a sustainable peace in Palestine /Israel.
Professor Nick Maynard is a surgeon and medical tutor in Oxford and Gaza. Through Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP), he was in Gaza over Christmas 2023, before he was evicted by the IDF. He has since returned. He says Gaza is, “…much worse than we could possibly have imagined. I couldn’t compare it to anything, it was just like nothing I’ve seen on Earth,”
Tayab Ali is an internationally renowned lawyer, and Director of the International Centre of Justice for Palestinians (ICJP). Tayab, and the ICJP have, among many other initiatives, lodged a criminal complaint alleging UK Government Ministers’ complicity in war crimes at Scotland Yard. Michael Mansfield KC (moderator) describes himself as a radical lawyer and is well known for his work defending the Birminham Six, the Hillsborough disaster and the death of Jean Charles de Menezes. He has long also been an advocate of justice for the Palestinian people.
They will speak about their experience, how they see the situation unfolding, and what they believe is necessary to bring about an equitable and lasting peace in Israel/Palestine and the Middle East. You will have plenty of opportunity to interact with them, ask questions and share your own take on the situation.
We hope you will attend live in St Peter’s Hall, CV32 5AA, but the event will also be live-streamed on Zoom. Please indicate your preference when you register.
The event is free and there will be a retiring collection to help defray costs with any balance going to support the work of MAP. If attending via Zoom you can donate to MAP via the link on the registration page. We will send you the joining link a few days before the event.
