Project Plan

A project team has been created which has the following main aims:

• Raising Mental Health Awareness
• Talking, Listening and Engaging with all
• Supporting, Educating, Providing Expert Advice and Information on Services available
• Delivering the Right Message to Change Public Attitudes and Remove Stigmas around Mental Health
• Enabling people to seek help early enough before their problems progress further

To achieve this UNA Coventry plans to:

• Produce a booklet designed for Muslims to explain the origins, symptoms and treatment of mental health issues
• Explore faith-based solutions working in partnership with Mosques (Masjids) and Day centres.
• Reach out and Engage with Muslim Communities & Employers by creating a Dialogue & Openness about Mental Health
• Engage Medical experts, GP’s, Hospitals
• Work in partnership with Muslim Faith affiliates, StakeHolders, Schools
• Work with Mental Health Charities such as Mind, HeadsTogether, Calm, Connect, Maslaha etc.
• Deliver Seminars & Conferences with key speakers .
• Hold Discussions / Debates
• Give Youth a Platform

Other ideas they will consider in the future include:

• Set up Training for Project Members & First Aiders to recognise Mental Health signs & symptoms
• Help Faith & Community Leaders to better understand the terms Mental Health, Mental illness & Mental Well Being
• Build relationships with the Homeless, Lonely, Socially Isolated, Elderly
• Enable all to Work Together to Achieve our Targets.
• Find solutions to treat the issues.
• Raise funds & resources.

It was formed as one of the demands of students participating in the Student Strike for Climate in the spring of 2019.

It has its own website (covcan.uk) and will act with the support of UNA Coventry but have its own membership and independent steering committee.
